Product Description

Giant Danio (3–4cm) are fast-swimming, high-energy schooling fish known for their metallic blue bodies and golden horizontal striping. At this juvenile size, they are already active and hardy, making them excellent additions to larger community aquariums.

🌿 Species Overview

  • Scientific Name: Devario aequipinnatus

  • Common Name: Giant Danio

  • Current Size: 3–4 cm

  • Adult Size: 8–10 cm

  • Origin: South & Southeast Asia

  • Temperament: Active, semi-peaceful

Despite the name, they’re not huge β€” but they are significantly larger and more energetic than standard zebra danios.

🎨 Appearance

  • Iridescent metallic blue body

  • Bright yellow to gold horizontal stripes

  • Streamlined torpedo shape

  • Clear fins with subtle blue tint

  • Strong shimmer under bright lighting

As they mature, their colors intensify and bodies become more robust.

🐟 Behavior & Compatibility

  • Must be kept in groups of 6 or more (10+ ideal)

  • Extremely active mid-to-top swimmers

  • Suitable tank mates: barbs, larger tetras, rainbowfish, peaceful cichlids

  • Avoid slow or delicate long-finned species

Keeping them in larger groups helps disperse their energetic behavior.

πŸ’§ Ideal Water Parameters

  • Temperature: 22–26Β°C

  • pH: 6.0–7.5

  • Hardness: Soft to moderately hard

  • Water Flow: Moderate to strong (they enjoy current)

They are hardy and adaptable but thrive in clean, well-oxygenated water.

🏑 Tank Setup

  • Minimum Tank Size: 100 liters

  • Long tank preferred (they need swimming space)

  • Secure lid (strong jumpers!)

  • Open swimming areas with side plantings

  • Moderate water movement

They do best in tanks with plenty of horizontal space.

🍽 Feeding

  • High-quality flakes or small pellets

  • Frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia

  • Occasional live food

Feed 1–2 times daily in moderate portions.

πŸ“ˆ Care Level

  • Difficulty: Easy

  • Very hardy and beginner-friendly

  • Excellent for active community tanks
